Dr. Jacqueline Brooks is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at California State University, Sacramento. Dr. Brooks especially values opportunities to mentor under-represented students, which she regards as an essential component of the higher education experience.

Her scholarly and research activities focus on the experiences of marginalized groups, primarily race and ethnic groups, within many social institutions. Her co-authored reader, Race and Ethnicity: The Sociological Mindful Approach was published in 2020 with Cognella Academic Publishing. Much of the book reflects the original works of women of color. In addition to multiple editorials, her contributions include two works that address police brutality. Current works in progress focus on race segregation within the K-12 public school system, and racialized imagery in children’s books. In addition, she is currently working with the Office of Institutional Research, Effectiveness and Planning to produce a series of journal articles that disaggregate the National Survey of Student Engagement data by race, ethnicity, and income-level to reveal obstacles and successes in student learning. A recent graduate of the WSCUC Assessment Leadership Academy, Dr. Brooks seeks to make significant contributions to the study of the campus climate and its effect on student success.
